DEEPSTREAM DESIGNS INTRODUCES AUDUBON
PLANTERS FOR DESIGNERS WHO WANT TO IMPACT OUTDOOR SPACES
AND THE EXPANDING VERTICAL MARKET
February 18, 2008
DeepStream Designs introduces its new
Audubon Modular Planter System which was designed to
bring the garden to condo balconies and rooftops.
Designer Tom Boyce created DeepStream’s Audubon Panel
Planters to allow architects and designers to carry
their design motif into the increasingly important
outdoor living space. The Audubon planter allows
customization of professional landscaper-grade planters
for the home and condo, and coordinates with DSD’s line
of recycling receptacles and signage for hospitality and
commercial spaces.
DSD’s unique
planter design details make them especially well-suited
for balconies, rooftops, lobbies, restaurants and
yachts. Their rectangular shape and higher volume are a
cost-effective, contemporary alternative to a clutter of
pots that are not conducive to serious landscaping.
DSD's design allows installation of thriving flower
gardens, hedges, and trees, even on south and
west-facing exposures, not only by insulating the root
ball from the intense solar gain that damages roots in
pots, but also by hiding drip irrigation lines from
view. Optional
self-watering liners with reservoirs and
drains save time, plants and money by reducing watering
and maintenance time.
Designs are limited only by the imagination and the
environmental conditions of the site placement.
With the Audubon planter, designers can
meet their creative needs quickly and
cost effectively through the use of any waterproof
half-inch panel or composite assembly for the planter
side panels.

resin (shown in the enclosed photo) is an exciting
choice for fashion-forward clients. High-tech
lightweight panels made of resin, marble, granite,
slate, copper, stainless steel or traditional hardwoods
can match project design specifications, and simply
slide into place, allowing for rapid, low-cost
customization. Optional lights, speakers and trellis
inserts add to the creation of unique spaces.
DeepStreams Designs was founded by Tom
Boyce, who was dismayed by today’s throw-away society in
which products designed for the lowest possible initial
cost barely make it home from the store before
breaking. His green products incorporate deceptively
simple, aesthetically-pleasing designs which minimize
environmental impact through timeless design, careful
material selection and rugged construction.
Built from half-inch panels and
proprietary marine-anodized aluminum extrusions, and
using liners of pre-consumer recycled plastics,
DeepStream’s Audubon Modular Planter System reduces the
impact on our environment and provide the lowest cost of
ownership over time. Designed for simple assembly,
DeepStream’s products can be easily repaired and
refinished, instead of tossed away.
Founding the premier expedition
mountaineering equipment company, Marmot Mountain Works,
at age 19, and later as the CEO of a 330-store women’s
retail chain, Tom’s interest in design has been a
life-long passion. As professional yacht captains, Tom
and his wife Sheila have been inspired by great design
in locales visited during their travels. Now, with the
years of experience gained with materials that endure
the tough ocean-going marine environment, Tom creates
products that build on classic concepts, with a
contemporary edge. Tom’s last big project, designing
and building a European-courtyard-style condominium and
furnishings for a condo hotel in Coconut Grove, Florida,
led to the creation of DeepStream Designs, which will
take Tom’s designs to the public.
